national highways authority of india (nhai) is planning to construct a road connecting beypore port to malaparamba junction in dist. kozhikode, kerala. the ministry of road transport and highways has submitted the proposal to nhai. the project is in initial stage. according to media sources, the road is being proposed for implementation under the sagarmala project of the union government, aimed at spurring port-led development including enhancing port connectivity, or through nhdp programme of nhai. the alignment of the 18.4 km road is planned through the kozhikode beach. the project is that the new road can be constructed without acquiring any existing land. the proposed project starts from beypore port and culminates at malaparamba junction with three sections in between. the first stretch envisages a 13.4 km four-lane road from beypore port to kozhikode beach passing through gotheeswaram, marad, payyanakkal, kothi and ending at south beach. already there are existing roads in the stretch which can be developed. the second stretch would be a 2.9 km long elevated highway from south beach to eranhipalam passing through panikkar road, vellayil, nadakkavu, manorama junction and east nadakkavu. the final stretch would be the 2.1 km four lane road from eranhipalam to malaparamba junction, which is part of the existing mananchira- vellimadukunnu road development project. the proposed road has existing two lane wide roads on most part of the stretch which are proposed to be upgraded to four-lane divided carriageway and an elevated highway.
