south eastern coalfields is planning an expansion of the gayatri underground coal mining project from 0.30 mtpa to 0.88 mtpa (normative) & 1.188mtpa (peak) at village getra, dist. surguja, chhattisgarh on the mine area of 507.472 hectares. the coal grade is g-6. the method of mining would be underground. bord & pillar system, conveyor belt and lhd/sdl & continuous miner package. the estimated cost of the project is rs. 1,502.74 million. the project is waiting for environmental clearance. tender preparation is in progress for contractor. according to moef sources, the life of mine is 21 years. the mineable reserve is 15.494 mt & extractable reserve is 15.494 mt. mining plan/project report for the proposed expansion was approved in phases by the secl board in april & december, 2016. mine closure plan is an integral part of the mining plan.
