current status : as of january 2017, abb has teamed up with the company in the mega project worth over rs. 43,500 million for abb to deliver the transmission link. the 1,830 km long, 800 kv ultrahigh-voltage direct current (uhvdc) system will connect raigarh in chhattisgarh to pugalur in tamil nadu. the two-way link will integrate thermal and wind energy for transmission of power to high consumption centers, supporting electricity demands in the south, when wind strength is low, and transmitting clean energy to the north, when there is excess wind power. the turnkey project encompasses design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning and major equipment supplies include the complete uhvdc stations, including transformers, converter valves, cooling systems, and control and protection technology. the total project value is worth more than rs. 57,000 million and the balance will be executed by abbs consortium partner bhel (bharat heavy electricals). the order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2016. this mega project is expected to be completed in 2019.
