inland waterways authority of india is planning to construct an iwt terminal at ramnagar, dist. varanasi, uttar pradesh. this will be a multimodal terminal with rail and road connectivity. phase-i (a) of the project is being implemented on 5.586 hectares, mainly for offshore works of the terminal. the tender process for phase 1(a) has been completed and work has been awarded at a cost of rs. 1,690 million. [info as of: jun. 16] inland waterways authority of india is constructing a multi-modal terminal in dist. varanasi, uttar pradesh. the project is a part of the jal marg vikas project on the river ganga, being developed between allahabad and haldia covering a distance of 1,620 kms. the civil construction cost is rs. 1,690 million and the land cost is rs. 150 million. the total cost of the project is rs. 1,840 million. award has been delayed because of allahabad high court ban on construction on banks of ganga. high court allowed construction of terminal on 28th april, 2016. phase 1a land area is 16 acres. phase 2 land area is 70 acres for railway siding. investment for phase 2 is rs. 1.1 billion. construction work has been awarded. mobilization and pre-construction activity has commenced. dpr is in progress for 5 km railway connectivity from jeonathpur to ramnagar. [info as of: aug. 16] inland waterways authority of india is constructing a multi-modal terminal at ramnagar, dist. varanasi, uttar pradesh. the contract for construction of phase-i of the terminal has been awarded to afcons infrastructure at an estimated cost of rs. 1,700 million. the terminal will have road and rail connectivity with proposed links on nh-7 and jeonathpur railway station respectively. the cargo handling capacity of the terminal on completion of phase-i is estimated to be 1.2 mtpa. the cargo that will be handled at the terminal includes stone chips, cement, food grains, fertilisers, sugar etc. the terminal will have facilities including berthing space for two vessels simultaneously, storage area, transit shed, parking areas, among others. the terminal will also have a floating jetty for passenger transportation. the terminal is a part of phase-i (haldia-varanasi stretch) of the national waterway-1 (nw-1) that is being developed under the jal marg vikas project, with assistance from the world bank at an estimated cost of rs. 42,000 million. foundation stone was laid on 12th august, 2016. construction work has commenced. phase-i of the terminal is likely to be completed by august 2018.
